DJ 3574 at Greymouth Loco Depot, West Coast, South Island, New Zealand on 06011987. DJ 3574 was built in 1968 at Mitsubishi (1560) as DJ 1253 (Bo-Bo-Bo, livery:NZGR Nippon Pink), entered service 01021969. renumbered c1978 to DJ 3574 and Written Off 24031988 at Greymouth 64 Class DJ (Mitsubishi) Locomotives were bought by NZR in late 1960s for the South Island to replace the last of the Steam Engines. DJ were unique in being Bo-Bo-Bo for Secondary Line Light Rail Running. Due to being underpowered (670kW1050hp) and with Secondary Line closures, the class was withdrawn about 20 years afrer introduction.
