Seiko 6309-729A with a William Jean super oyster II. OK, so the 6309-7040 is the classic and I don’t own one (yet) but I’ve got a thing for square markers. Blame it on my 6105-8110, which is about as classic as a Japanese watch can be there are rarer and so more collectable, of course, but that’s the Apocalypse Now watch. This 6309-729A is one substantial watch on the all solid oyster bracelet. The watch and bracelet (with four links removed) weighs in at 150g. For a while I wanted Seiko’s US-market SKX173 on account of the square markers, but then I started to become more interested in vintage watches. This is a very similar watch, except that the crown is solidly at 4 O’ clock and, I believe, the case is a bit chunkier. I love the way the Pepsi bezel insert gives a splash of colour. I know it’s not about money, but I put this classic combo together for around $150 shipped (watch $90 and bracelet $60).
